We're proud to announce the first public presentation of fabric[actions] — our new textile art project rooted in guerrilla textile activism — as part of Cultural Threads 2025, a week-long program celebrating immigrant fashion and accessories designers based in Berlin.

Our new project fabric[actions] debuts at Cultural Threads 2025 in Berlin.

The event will take place at PLATTE•Berlin from June 3–7, with an Opening Reception on June 3 from 17:00 to 20:00. RSVP here.

ABOUT THE WORK

fabric[actions]: ephemeral fabrications against permanent waste

A series of textile-based art interventions using discarded materials to reclaim public space and critique the violence of overproduction and disposability in the fashion industry.

This project is deeply personal. As a migrant raised in Argentina — in a time and place where scarcity demanded creativity — my relationship with materials was shaped by necessity. Before fast fashion took over, we learned to make things last. Today, I see the contrast sharply in northern contexts where waste is normalized and abundance becomes invisible.

Through fabric[actions], I return to the act of mending — not just garments, but systems. These ephemeral compositions — placed in public or created in studio using street-sourced textiles and abandoned wood — act as protests, rituals, and visual poems. They resemble textile "vomit" or oversized brush strokes: chaotic, spontaneous, urgent. Some are left on the street to be taken or interacted with, others are shown in exhibition form, but all are part of the same cycle of reclaiming material and meaning.

This is not just art. It’s a response. To fashion’s destruction. To systemic neglect. To the privilege of throwing things away.

For over a decade, with Therapy Recycle & Exorcise, I’ve worked alongside my sister to build a brand rooted in upcycling, sustainability, and DIY resistance. fabric[actions] is a continuation of that journey — an evolution into public, visual, and activist space.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mariángeles Aguirre is a Berlin-based Argentine artist, activist, and co-founder of Therapy Recycle & Exorcise. For over 13 years, she has worked at the intersection of fashion, sustainability, and DIY activism, creating bold gender-fluid statements and fostering inclusive community spaces. fabric[actions] marks a new chapter: visual art and site-specific interventions that use discarded textiles to question power, privilege, and permanence.
