Yesterday we were part of the First Latinamerican Upcyclers Forum, which was organised by Suprareciclaje.org and supported by the platform Conectamasfiis.
We are very thankful with Suprareciclaje.org for creating this so much needed community of Latinamerican Upcyclers and organising a Forum.
We truly believe that only together we, creatives, artists, upcyclers, can have a significant impact in the world.
It was an amazing almost 3 hours time sharing the stories, paths and experiencies of 10 upcycling projects from Latinamerica, our works and visions in this unique fashion approach that can contribute to empower communities like no other and cares for the planet.
Who we were:
"Our final product shows that materials and people who are often excluded from the labor system, can be part of the production chain of first class garments, if given the opportunity", said Jessica Pullo from Biótico Argentina
Francisca Gajardo, creator of the brand Y.A.N.G.(You are the next generation), made a remark about the theme of the meeting, “it is not about doing less damage, it is not about reducing your CO2 emissions. It is about taking advantage of all this energy to take it to new places and help the communities around us."
"Paula Aguirre and Mariángeles Aguirre are sisters and they created Therapy + Recycle and Exorcise, a brand of "reworked vintage" as they call it, which is based on the search to "exorcise" the negative in order to transform it into positive. One of them lives in Berlin and that was the impulse when she became an immigrant and began to question who she was. So "I grabbed rags I had around and started to re-make clothes with the learning that I had from childhood from our grandmother."

As we shared our stories we realised that we all have gone through similar experiencies and arrived to similar conclusions and visions. The approach, techniques or easthetic can differ. But at the core, we remain the same.
We all see fashion as a means of communication and an empowering tool for individuals and communities that can and should be open source, participative and stimulating instead of opressing and destructive of the planet.

Supra.org - La comunidad de recicladores latinoamericanos y el primer foro latinoamericano de recicladores
Ayer fuimos parte del Primer Foro Latinoamericano de Suprarecicladores, que fue organizado por Suprareciclaje.org y apoyado por la plataforma Conectamasfiis.
Estamos muy agradecidas con Suprareciclaje.org por crear esta comunidad tan necesaria de suprarecicladores Latinoamericanos y organizar un Foro.
Realmente creemos que solo juntos, nosotros los creativos, artistas, recicladores, podemos tener un impacto significativo en el mundo.
Fue un tiempo increíble de casi 3 horas compartiendo las historias y caminos de 10 proyectos de suprareciclaje de América Latina, nuestros trabajos y visiones en este enfoque de moda único que puede contribuir a empoderar a comunidades como ninguna otra y se preocupa por el planeta.
Quiénes éramos:
“Nuestro producto final muestra que los materiales y las personas que muchas veces son excluidas del sistema laboral, pueden ser parte de la cadena de producción de prendas de primera, si se les da la oportunidad”, dijo Jessica Pullo de Biótico Argentina.
Francisca Gajardo, creadora de la marca Y.A.N.G. (Ustedes son la próxima generación), hizo un comentario sobre el tema del encuentro, “no se trata de hacer menos daños, no se trata de que reduzcas tus emisiones de CO2. Se trata de aprovechar toda esta energía para llevarla a nuevos lugares y ayudar a las comunidades que nos rodean”.
"Paula Aguirre y Mariángeles Aguirre son hermanas y crearon Therapy + Recycle y Exorcise, una marca de “reworked vintage” como le llaman ellas, que se basa en la búsqueda de “exorcizar” lo negativo para transformarlo en positivo. Una de ellas vive en Berlín y eso fue el impulso cuando se convirtió en inmigrante y se empezó a cuestionar quién era. Así “agarré trapos y empecé a fabricar prendas con el aprendizaje que tuvimos en la infancia por nuestra abuela”.

Al compartir nuestras historias, nos dimos cuenta de que todxs hemos pasado por experiencias similares y llegamos a conclusiones y visiones similares. El enfoque, las técnicas o la estética pueden diferir. Pero en el fondo, somos muy similares.
Todxs vemos la moda como un medio de comunicación y una herramienta de empoderamiento para las personas y las comunidades que puede y debe ser de código abierto, participativa y estimulante en lugar de opresora z destructiva del planeta que nos sostiene.
